Summer is the time for outdoor parties and barbecues. In many ways, it’s the best time of year for your health.
All that sunshine gives your vitamin D3 levels a natural boost, which helps your immunity, improves your mood, and may even help you to lose weight.
But there are some health dangers that you should watch for as the temperatures rise.
Let’s take a look at 5 ways to stay healthy this summer.
1. Beware Overcooked Meat
Everyone loves BBQ season, with good reason! Grilling your meat can be a healthy option on the Candida diet.
All too often though, the meat that comes off the grill is overcooked, charred and damaging to your health.
If your meat is blackened, it contains Advanced Glycation End Products. These chemicals are carcinogenic, pro-inflammatory, increase oxidative stress, and are bad for your gut.
When you’re grilling meat, opt for the ‘low and slow’ method wherever possible. If you need to use higher temperatures, use them for a short time only and then move the meat to a cooler part of the grill.
2. Stay Hydrated
It’s twice as important to stay hydrated in the summer, especially if you have Candida overgrowth or digestive problems.
Water helps to flush toxins out of your system through urination and regular bowel movements. It also reduces bloating, boosts your metabolism, and can reduce your Candida symptoms.
Carry a water bottle with you to stay hydrated. You can add a little lemon juice to your water if you want a natural vitamin C boost.
3. Are You Sleeping Enough?
Do you find yourself waking up earlier in the summer? It can be tough to sleep in when the light starts showing around the edge of your blinds at 5am.
Good sleep hygiene means keeping your bedroom as dark as possible.
Blackout curtains are the best solution to maintain the perfect sleeping environment in your bedroom.
If you're struggling with fatigue already, getting good sleep is absolutely essential.
4. Air Out Your Home
Airing out your home can be a challenge in the winter when it’s cold and rainy.
Chemicals known as Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) come from your furniture, mattress, the paint on your walls, and many household cleaning products.
These VOCs can cause breathing problems and inflammation, and could worsen the symptoms of Candida or other health conditions.
In the summer it’s much easier to eliminate those VOCs from your home! Open a few windows, get the air flowing through your house, and allow those airborne toxins to be blown away.
Bonus tip: Buy some potted plants for the inside of your home! Any plant you buy will help to clean the air, and they all remove different toxins. If you buy a few different plants then you’ll have all your bases covered 🙂
5. Help Your Body To Remove Toxins
There are lots of things you can do to remove toxin exposure, but you can never truly eliminate it. Toxins from environmental pollution, VOCs, grilled meats and more are a part of modern life.
The next best thing is to support your liver as it processes and removes those toxins from your body. However, that can be a challenge if it’s already coping with a Candida overgrowth.
There are natural supplements that are proven to support liver health and aid detoxification. These include milk thistle extract, dandelion extract, N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC), and artichoke leaf extract.
